The town itself has two official forms of its name, l’Alfàs del Pi in Valencian and Alfaz del Pi in Spanish, and the confusion does not stop there. The Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua, working with the town hall, published the official names of every place in the municipality in 2018. Set them beside a few rental listings and the problem is plain:
| Official name (AVL) | Also written |
|---|---|
| La Foia Blanca | Foya Blanca |
| L’Arabí | El Arabí, Arabi |
| El Captivador | Cautivador, El Cautivador |
| Colònia Escandinava | Colonia Escandinavia |
| L’Oasi | El Oasis |
| Sant Rafael | San Rafael |
| l’Albir | El Albir, Albir |
Add the estate-agent names some developments were given, and one house can have three addresses. At night, that is the difference between a car that stops at your gate and one that drives round the estate twice.
Give the street, as it is on the sign
The street sign is what the driver will see. Read it off the corner, letter by letter if it is in Valencian, rather than the version in your booking confirmation.
Add what is on the gate
A house name, a number painted on the pillar, the colour of the gate. Where house numbers are small, faded or hidden by a hedge, the gate is the surer landmark.
Send a pin, from the gate
On WhatsApp, share your current location while you stand at the gate, not from the sofa. A pin dropped from inside the house can land on the wrong side of the block.
Switch on a light
An outside light switched on, or a phone torch waved at the road, saves more time than any description.
If you are not at the house
If you are on the path to the Albir lighthouse or at the beach, say where you will meet, and walk back to the house so the locksmith is not looking for two places at once.
The list of every urbanization we cover, with both spellings, is on the area page. If you are shut out now, the emergency line is answered at any hour.
